Day 243

I photograph objects, I do no Photoshop them in.

For Christmas, I gave my mother a really cool candle and she likes it. I do too. It has mirrors which reflect the candles and make them seem as if they go on forever.

I like it, they go to infinity and beyond.

Day 242

I am a dog person.

However, I like this cat. She is unbelievably curious and funny. Flutter likes to hide behind couches and walls, only to jump and scare the person stepping around it. It is hilarious. She does not like to play with typical cat toys, the ring around a gallon-sized water jug keeps her occupied for hours. And rubber bands. She loves them.

Pets show great emotions in their faces. I guess that is all they can do, since they cannot speak to us. I wonder what Flutter is thinking here.

Day 241

A word of caution: dementors are vicious creatures. They will not distinguish between the one they hunt and the one who gets in there way. Therefore I must warn each and every one of you to give them no reason to harm you. It's not in the nature of a dementor to be forgiving. -Dumbledore

Day 240

Whyyyyyy hellooooooo Pongooooooo!

Last week I did a couple photo shoots with kids who wanted to give their parents photographs of them for Christmas (a great gift for any occasion, by the way). Two girls, who are 10 and 12, used some mustache props and ugly Christmas sweaters and Santa hats for their photograph. Today, I decided to use the mustache on Pongo. I think he looks so refined, or like the Monopoly man. Either or, he is adorable.

If you are on facebook, please LIKE my photography on there. I would really appreciate it. Thank you =)

Day 238

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

It is only fitting to finish off the "Holiday Bokeh" series. A local restaurant decorated its pine trees, so I thought I would venture over there and take a quick photograph. I like this one as well. But it still stands, yesterday is still my absolute favorite.

My favorite photograph of my "Holiday Bokeh" series.

This one turned out really well. I love how the lighting borders the roof and the windows.

Day 236

Some houses have an excess of Christmas lights.

This house definitely had a lot of lights, but I have seen lighting that is much worse. The bokeh turned out nicely, especially on the tree.

Day 235

This house had simple lights, but it made for some cool bokeh!

Day 234

I liked this house because of the red and the white lights.

In the front was one of those colorful Santa sleighs. The bokeh came out pretty neat.

Day 232

Oh my, what a beautiful bokeh you have.

"Bokeh describes the rendition of out-of-focus points of light," says Ken Rockwell. In "light" of the holiday season that is fast-approaching, I have decided to do a week of bokeh Christmas lights. With the last day ending on Christmas. I have wanted to do a little more night photography and this will enable/force me to do so.

Hope you enjoy it and your holiday!

Day 230

Pongo was not feeling to well today.

Maybe it is the cold weather coming in, but his leg was really bothering him. I feel really bad. I am thinking it is hip dysplasia because it is common with labradors. I need to schedule an appointment with the vet soon.

That is all I want for Christmas, for Pongo to feel better.

Day 228

The sea was angry that day my friends, like an old man trying to
return soup at a deli! -George Costanza

Maybe it was not the sea that was angry today, but the clouds surely were. Again, Michigan did want to make up its mind today, regarding the weather. It was very warm this morning, I had no trouble walking Pongo without a jacket. Contradictory to the AM, it is very cold this evening and I even saw hints of snow on my way home. I turned up the heat in my car and cursed myself for not wearing more layers of clothing.

It was about mid-afternoon when I took this photograph today. The clouds were unsettled, always changing from cloudy to letting the sun shine right through. The sun happened to be right behind the clouds and I thought it would look very dramatic if in black and white. I was correct. Almost tornado-like. Though, luckily, we were not in danger of one.

I hope we have nice weather this weekend, I have a couple photoshoots and they are much more enjoyable when Mother Nature is kind.

Day 225

I do not think I can ever love Pongo enough.

Today, I went to the middle school where I help with the Photography Club. As per usual, I developed a "lesson plan" for the students and I must say, it was very successful. I put "lesson plans" in quotes because I am a student and for me to be lecturing students younger than me seems silly. Probably because I like to act young, but maybe that is why it is so much fun to hang out with these kids. And I really do enjoy every minute of it.

The reason why I believe today was very successful is because the kids' analysis and critiques of the photographs I showed them was incredible. I brought in a bunch of photographs I took that contained minor and major photographic flaws.
After having two one-hour lessons previous to the one today, the students were able to identify several different rules and techniques, all while using proper photographic terms. I was very happy to see how far they have come in such a short amount of time. I am very proud of all of them, they are such great kids. I am thankful that they listen so well and are so open to having me help them with their photography. I absolutely cannot wait to hang out with them more and share one of my favorite hobbies with them.

Day 223

Rock on.

My BFF Sarah is the one playing the guitar. I do not like posting faces on my photography project (here is why), and I thought the lighting was interesting here.

This evening, she and her bandmates invited me out to photograph their show. Cherry Octane and a few other bands played a fundraiser show for this little guy, Noah. All the money raised will be going towards helping him pay for the cost of his service dog and other medical expenses.

While the ladies of Cherry Octane ruled the stage, it was great to see all of those people come together for a great cause. Even though times are tough, times can be tougher for others. And it is fantastic to see so many people help this little boy and his family. I know the show is over by the time I post this, but there is information on the flyer for donations, should you want to make one.

I am wishing all the best for Noah and his family.

Day 221

So playful.

I think it is incredible how Pongo can look so old (as in Day 216) and act so youthful a day later. It is a great reminder of no matter how old one gets, it is important to be young at heart.

Like today, I was driving around with my 10-year-old friend and she said that she did not believe in Santa Claus anymore. I told her that I still do and she looked at me as if I just told her that Justin Bieber lost his voice. She was surprised. I said, "Yes, I believe in Santa -- the Christmas Spirit he brings." Now, she may not have comprehended the way I phrased the sentence, but it is true. Santa plays a major role in Christmas Spirit; something everyone should have during the holidays. It is a time for happiness, family and love. A time to reflect and remember what is important. To me, staying young at heart is important and I know Santa and Pongo will help me do so.

Day 220

Time is running so fast.

Can you believe it is almost Christmas? I cannot. I am just happy next week I will be done with my finals for this semester. Especially my math final, I am not the biggest fan of math.

Oh -- and I bought a new watch today -- do you like it?

Day 218

Apparently, my professor loves the fact that I used German in my research paper.

My professor is absolutely brilliant. He is an older British guy who speak many languages: Greek, Latin, Italian, French, Welsh, Spanish, German and English (obviously). I wrote my research paper on Der Kölner Dom (the Cologne Cathedral) in Germany. I used some German phrases and he was very impressed. I am glad he enjoyed my paper, especially since I put over 10 hours of work into it. So I earned 40 out of 40 points for a perfect score. Three more essays and one final exam and I am done with this class for the semester. As happy as I am for the semester to come to a close, I will miss this class. I really enjoy listening to my professor's lectures. I am very fortunate to have such a great professor.

Day 217

Apple?
No, thank you.

It's gooooood!

Yes, this is a photograph...it is from my MacBook in the dark. I thought the idea of a having a "floating apple" was kind of neat. But not as neat as the candle from a few days ago. I liked that one as well.

Day 216

Pongo is beginning to look like an old man.

I guess I should stop calling him a puppy. But I love him and he will always be my little puppy. I decided to take a photograph of Pongo today. I think he was starting to feel left out with all the photographs I took of other puppies, kittens and also snake. Even here, he looks a little sad. Though, his back leg has been bothering him. A trip to the vet is needed soon. Not looking forward to that bill...

Day 215

Welcome Rocky!

My friends got a new puppy and he is absolutely gorgeous. So full of energy and love. One of the greatest thing about dogs is how loving they can be and how expressive their faces are. Being around Rocky reminded me of when Pongo was a puppy and how much I adore my puppy.

I cannot wait until Rocky is big enough to play with Pongo. They will be great friends.

Day 214

I know I am not the only one who gets excited when there is a little message on money.

The writer (and law breaker) could have meant a bunch of different things with just three words. What do you think they meant?

Oh and I have to post this screenshot. My friend Connie is absolutely hilarious and I wanted to share this with you today -- in spirit of the upcoming holidays.

I love it.

Day 212

It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness. Eleanor Roosevelt

The power in my neighborhood went out today so I spent most of the day in candlelight. I was writing a research paper for one of my classes and I felt as if I lived in the time before electricity. Minus me typing on my computer. But other than that, I felt completely colonial. It made me realize how much I depend on technology and electricity. Without electricity, I was unable to go on the internet, which probably did me more good than bad. I ended up spending more time on my paper rather than procrastinating haha. Though it is getting a little chilly in my house, so I hope the power goes back on soon.

I was totally not prepared when the power went out earlier today. Since I am not a smoker, I scrambled around the house to find a lighter to light the candles. I did not have many candles and it made me wish I attended more Candle Lite parties, or take more trips to the dollar store.

Electricity or not, I am determined to finish this project up. 153 days to go.

Day 208

Pretty!

Today I went to the Detroit Institute of Arts. It is one of my favorite places to escape to in the city and I always have a fantastic time. While in one of the galleries, this piece caught my eye. I love the colors and the way the glass reflected the lights. So cool. There are a few places within the museum that you cannot take photographs, but I am lucky that I was able to get a photograph of this sculpture. I think it is neat-o.

Day 206

It was a little crowded tonight in the D.

Though, having stop and go traffic is good for a little night photography. Not the best photographs I took, but having been been behind the wheel, they are decent. I want to make an effort to take more photographs at night. Though I am definitely not a night owl.

Hoot. Hoot.

Day 205

Where brains are molded.

Today I met some really cool middle school kids who are very interested in learning more about photography. I worked with Ms. T, a former teacher of mine and we showed them some examples of my photography so they can start to "see like a camera." It was great to see the look of intrique, attentiveness and curiosity on their faces as I explained different techniques and photographic rules. I am excited to work with them more and help them take better photographs.

Day 201

If I had to pick a favorite animal, a snake would definitely not be it.

If I had to pick a favorite photograph that I took today, this would definitely be it.

I went to the zoo with my friend Lorna and it was fantastic. The weather was chilly enough to discourage people from spending the day at the Detroit Zoo, which did not stop us. It was great actually because it felt as if we were the only people there with the animals. It gave us extra time to walk around and see everything, without the usual crowded mass of spectators. Extra time at the zoo allowed me to spend more time on each animal, work on some technical stuff and capture better photographs. Other than being a little cold, it was really great.

I was lucky enough to see this guy in the Holden Museum of Living Reptiles. After shuddering at the thought of getting close to the glass to take a photograph, I gathered up what courage I had and pressed the shutter-release button. Checking my camera screen to make sure the photograph turned out okay, I could not help but appreciate the beauty in the fierceness and intimidation that crossed his face. Because even though snakes are not my favorite animal, they are fascinating creature to watch and learn about. I guess that is what makes the Detroit Zoo one of my favorite places, each time I go there, I escape from my daily life and am able to discover something stunning and splendid. I love being a Detroit Zoo member.

Day 200

165 days to go!

Wow, I cannot believe that I have completed this project for 200 consecutive days. I have had so much support from my friends and family - they are the best.

What is even more amazing is how this project has been a personal achievement for me. I have averaged about 1,000 views each month from around the globe and that is WAY more than I ever expected. So again -- I thank you for reading this daily, weekly, monthly, or whenever you do. Each time you look at one of my photographs, think of my saying "THANK YOU" or throwing a high-five your way. I sincerely appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.

The past few weeks have been hectic for me, with this semester coming to an end, I have exams each week and papers due. No exaggerating. But I try to use what energy and creativity I have left at the end of the day to come up with interesting photos.

I have 165 days to go, I decided to celebrate it with a "light painting" photograph. 165 days until my goal is completed.

Day 199

I know it is not Halloween, nor is it the same month as the pseudo-holiday, but this still hangs on my wall.

My friend's mom quilted me a Halloween-themed banner last month. Above this dude, there is also a mean looking witch on it, which I named the witch, Bellatrix Lastrange. I think I will leave the banner up until it is taken down by another family member. And since I had to take down a Christmas wreath to hang this, I believe it will be up until next Halloween. Plus it is made with love from Mama R. so of course it will be up!

She is the best.
