Day 16

I had the wonderful opportunity to spend quality time with my Chocolate Lab as we went to the vet today. I hope you could sense the hint of sarcasm in that last sentence.

Going to the vet with Pongo is an event neither of us enjoy. He does not like it, for obvious reasons; the poking of needles, getting blood work done and having strange looking people give him cookies in exchange for sitting while they check out his body.

I do not enjoy going to the vet with Pongo because he does not like it. Since it is not his favorite activity, he is nervous while in the office and he restlessly paces back and forth. He does not like his yearly check-ups; but they are needed.

All of his tests came back clear today and Pongo is very healthy. Though, he did gain 10 pounds since his last visit in April '10. Now he weighs 86 pounds...he is a big boy. The vet said that he is not overweight, but they would like to see him around 75 pounds. Especially because I said that his leg had been giving him a little trouble lately, but the vet said Pongo probably stretched a tendon in his right knee. Losing weight would help with his knee.

Like mommy, like puppy. We both have knee problems and the funny thing is that it is the same knee.

Regardless of my dislike for taking Pongo to the vet, I enjoy it. Because it is more time I get to spend with the little guy and it is comforting now that it is over. I know he is healthy.

"A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes, or designer clothes. A water log stick will do just fine. A dog doesn't care if your rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb. Give him your heart and he'll give you his. How many people can you say that about? How many people can make you feel rare and pure and special? How many people can make you feel extraordinary?"
